Haney Named Warden at Northpoint Training Center
FRANKFORT, KY – Kentucky Department of Corrections Commissioner John D. Rees today announced that Steve Haney has been appointed Warden of Northpoint Training Center (NTC) effective July 1. Haney, currently the Warden at the Blackburn Correctional Complex, will be replacing James L. Morgan who is retiring at Northpoint with over 32 yeas of service with the Department. “Haney is a true professional,” said Rees. “He has done a superb job at Blackburn dealing with that prison’s complex population of minimum-custody inmates - many of whom work in the community and many who have on-going medical concerns.” Haney began his corrections career in August of 1989 at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) as the Procedures Development Specialist. While at EKCC he also served as the Classification and Treatment Officer Supervisor. In 1996, he was promoted to Deputy Warden at Blackburn and in September of 2000, was appointed Warden of the minimum-security prison in Fayette County. As Warden at Northpoint, he will oversee the entire operation of the prison, which houses 1,200 inmates who are primarily medium-custody. He will also supervise 270 staff. Haney is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he received his bachelor’s degree in marketing. He is a native of Morgan County and he and his wife Kellie have three children, Colby, Kristin and Kaitlin.
