Bottom Promoted to Warden at BCC
Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson today announced the promotion of Don Bottom to Warden of Blackburn Correctional Complex (BCC) in Lexington. Warden Bottom will assume his new position effective September 1, 2009
“Don Bottom is a dedicated Corrections professional who has shown his leadership abilities on numerous occasions in challenging situations,” said Thompson. “His consistent progression through the ranks of the department will serve him well and will prove to be an asset during his tenure as warden at Blackburn.”
Bottom began his career at Northpoint Training Center in 1992 as a Correctional Officer. In 1993 he was promoted to CTO I and in February 1995, transferred to Frankfort Career Development Center. He was then promoted to CTO II in July 1995 and in 2002, he received a promotion to program administrator in Central Office.
Bottom has worked in various areas of Central Office including Private Prison Management and Classification, Home Incarceration Program (HIP) and the Offender Re-Entry program. He also served as Security Threat Group Coordinator, Interstate Compact Administrator, and participated in the Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program. Bottom is presently serving as Deputy Warden at Northpoint Training Center.
Bottom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position at BCC. He has received training in Hostage Negotiation, Certified Public Management, CPR/First Aid instruction and Train the Trainer. His professional affiliations include the Midwest Gang Investigators’ Association, American Correctional Association (ACA), Correctional Accreditation Managers’ Association (CAMA) and Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency (KCCD). Bottom was the recipient of the Frankfort Career and Development Center’s 2002 Commissioner’s Award.
Bottom is a 1993 graduate of Kentucky State University with a BA in Criminal Justice.
