The Kentucky Department of Corrections honored Reverend Roosevelt Lightsy, Jr. with the agency’s 2010 Lucille Hurt Robuck “Commitment to Corrections” Award on Wednesday.

Lightsy retired from state government in 2002, after completing more than 27 years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the field of Criminal Justice. He serves as the Community Liaison for the Newburg Justice Reinvestment Project. This pilot project was established to enlist the participation of key stakeholders in government, non-profit organizations, and faith-based communities, as well as citizen representatives and ex-offenders. Lightsy has been an ordained Baptist Minister since 1981 and is currently serving as Assistant Pastor and Youth Minister of the Community Missionary Baptist Church.

Also honored at the awards ceremony was Bryan Henson, who was named “Warden of the Year.” Henson, a 21-year veteran of the Department of Corrections, is warden at Western Kentucky Correctional Complex in Lyon County, the state’s only facility to ever be converted from a male institution to a female institution.

Allison Biggs was named “Probation & Parole Supervisor of the Year.” Biggs, an eight-year veteran of Corrections, was promoted to District 15 Supervisor in 2007.

The “Rookie of the Year” award was presented to Jose Garcia-Hernandez. Garcia-Hernandez is a Correctional Officer at Green River Correctional Complex and was honored for his work ethic, professionalism, resourcefulness in dealing with a barricaded inmate after only five months on the job.
