TAYLORSVILLE, Ky. – Two Kentucky State Parks will host the Kentucky Orienteering Adventure Oct. 23-25.

There will be three races held during the weekend, all sanctioned by Orienteering USA. The first, on Oct. 23, will be at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in Boone County. Two races will be held Oct. 24-25 at Taylorsville Lake State Park in Taylorsville.

This inaugural event is part of the Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games.

"In the past five years, Kentucky's state parks have become a national orienteering destination. The Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games are evidence of this," said Glen Schorr, executive director of Orienteering USA.

Orienteering is a wilderness navigation sport where competitors use a map and compass to complete a course. The winner is the person who completes the course in the shortest amount of time without making a mistake.

Anyone interested in competing should visit:  The deadline to register is Oct. 15.

The Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games feature a variety of outdoor events held across the state during October. These events illustrate the beauty of the outdoors in Kentucky, as well as the many adventure tourism opportunities.
