FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2003)-Gov. Paul Patton and a state agency that promotes volunteerism are seeking nominations for awards honoring individuals, organizations and businesses that have improved their communities through volunteer service.
Nominations for the Governor’s Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service must be postmarked no later than Friday, Oct. 17. Nomination forms may be obtained by calling Carrie Bryant at (800) 239-7404.
Awards will be presented for lifetime achievement, notable innovation, significant impact, overcoming challenges, group achievement, national service and volunteer support. A special award will honor an animal and handler who have rendered important service.
Both a youth and an adult award may be presented for innovation, impact and overcoming challenges. All nominations except those for lifetime achievement must focus on service activities that occurred between July 1, 2002, and June 30, 2003.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your program and your volunteers," said Eileen Cackowski, executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service, which co-sponsors the awards with the Governor’s Office.
An awards ceremony for the 2003 award recipients and their guests will take place in January. For more information, check the Commission website (http://volunteerky.ky.gov).
