FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 22, 2003) - To congratulate Lexington’s most recently formed "forever families," the Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children’s Bluegrass Fayette Regional office is hosting its first Adoption Day this month.
The celebration will be from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, in the first-floor assembly chambers of the Fayette County Circuit Courthouse, 120 N. Limestone St.
All families who will finalize an adoption that day or who have finalized one within the past year are invited, along with their attorneys, Citizens Foster Care Review Board members, family court judges and Cabinet staff.
Between 10 and 15 adoptions will be finalized that day, said Beth Kennedy, a social service worker on the Cabinet’s Fayette County Adoption Team.
"This event celebrates the permanency of these children and makes the public more aware of the need for adoptive homes," she said.
Bluegrass Fayette Service Region Administrator Toya Nicholson and Family Court Judge Kim Bunnell will speak, and the Citizens Foster Care Review Board will sponsor a reception.
Several families will be available to speak with the media.
Kennedy said her team wants to make the event an annual affair.
"Adoptive families deserve to be recognized for the great things they do for children in care," she said. "The public should also be aware that there are children who need adoptive homes."
