Attorney General Conway Issues Statement on Verdict in Drunk Driving Case that Killed Prosecutor Doug Wright
Attorney General Jack Conway today issued the following statement about the conviction on Thursday, January 14 of Daniel Gabbard for driving drunk and killing Commonwealth’s Attorney Doug Wright. Wright served as Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 18th judicial circuit representing Harrison, Nicholas, Pendleton and Robertson Counties from 2005 until his tragic death in June 2009. The jury has recommended a 20-year sentence for Gabbard.
"On behalf of the entire prosecutorial system, I would like to thank Linda Tally Smith and Jim Crawford for serving as special prosecutors in this tragic case. I also appreciate the jury’s careful consideration of this matter. I believe the outcome of this trial sends a clear message about the terrible consequences of drinking and driving."
Gabbard will be sentenced on March 26, 2010.
