Free Guided Gallery Tours at Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea
On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “Put a Lid On It: Containers by Kentucky Artisans” and the lobby exhibit, “Kentucky Murals by Frank W. Long.”
“Put a Lid On It” features over 45 artists and includes works made from clay, wood, leather, glass beads, felted wool, alabaster, old children’s building blocks, cast glass, Kentucky agate, sterling silver and recycled materials.

The lobby exhibit showcases the murals located in Kentucky that were created by artist Frank W. Long (1906-1999). These murals, one of which is in Berea, are on view in Lexington, Louisville and Morehead. From 1932-1942, Long lived and worked in Berea creating over 19 murals for public and federal buildings in the states of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Maryland and South Carolina.

These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center Information Specialist Gwen Heffner, who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Heffner will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. This tour will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.
In addition, on Feb. 14, Jeannette Rowlett will demonstrate heart-shaped jewelry from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
